Thai Isaan Project

SINCE THE LATE 1990s FEBC HAS BEEN sharing Christ with the Isaan people of northeast Thailand. Known for their friendliness, the Isan are family oriented and easy-going.

Most are farmers, and believe that "to be Thai is to be Buddhist." Traditionally, young men enter a monastery for three months to study Buddhism. Many practice their traditional ethnic religions by combining Buddhist teachings with folk animism, seeking help through the worship of spirits and objects.

Impact of Isaan Programs

FEBC airs approximately 100 programs each month on local stations. The programs bring healing and hope, and many listeners share that the programs are an essential part of their day!

In addition to corresponding with listeners by mail and phone, FEBC-Thailand offers a Bible correspondence course. Students study and take exams which are then sent to FEBC-Thailand for correction. More than 8,000 Isan listeners have enrolled in the course. Some of these students are serving jail sentences and have formed churches within the jails.

The following is a letter we recently received from an Isaan listener:

"This is my first letter to you. I'm writing to request a booklet that will give me encouragement.

I became a Christian because I had a 'typhoon' type of problem and lost all hope of living. But every time I cried, I prayed and thought of the Living God... and He heard me.

I've believed in Jesus for about 2 years now. I listen to the More Precious Than Gold program every day. Thank you for teaching me how to grow in my relationship with God.

The Project

FEBC provides the people of Thailand with the opportunity to learn the gospel message by programs on short wave radio and local AM and FM stations. With the fraction of the cost to produce one episode of a TV program in the United States, a whole year's worth of Bible teaching and encouragement can be provided for FEBC's listeners. FEBC needs your prayer and financial support to maintain its commitment to keeping quality Christian programming on the air for the Isan people.
