FEBC's Heartline Academy Training New Generation of Broadcasters to Share the Good News

Several years ago Professor Samuel T., Director of FEBC-Indonesia, was faced with a dilemma-how could he expand his ministry and multiply Christian broadcasters in the largest Muslim-dominant nation in the world? It was a question he grappled with every day… until he came up with a strategic solution.

Samuel decided to establish a Christian training center where students could learn to use media to share the Christian message. Here they would learn the skills to master the art of public speaking, promote healthy living on-air, write scripts, and even provide biblical counseling. And in 2003, Heartline Academy of Media was established in Jakarta.

Today, the Heartline Academy employs six full-time staff who have trained some 700 people in West Java, Borneo, Sumatra, Papua, and Bali. Some of the students have gone on to become broadcasters with FEBC-Indonesia (see story on page X), while others serve with a number of Christian radio stations in the country.

The radio station used to train Heartline Academy students also does double duty as FEBC's local FM station, which is heard by hundreds of thousands of Jakarta residents every day.

Gregg Harris, President of FEBC says, "It's exciting to see how God is using Heartline Academy not only to provide young Christian Indonesians with a skill set they can use in the future, but to impact an entire culture with the Good News."

And making an impact like this is so crucial in a Muslim-dominated country like Indonesia where so many are poor… and where the small minority of Christians is often persecuted for their faith.

This is why Samuel's vision is to establish several new radio stations across Indonesia by 2013. His heart is to saturate Indonesia with the Good News so that more and more people will come to know Christ… and so that the growing population of Christians can be encouraged to stand strong in their faith.

To accomplish this goal, Samuel hopes to train an additional 3,000 broadcasters… a goal he knows won't come without a price.

"My staff and I are poised and ready to teach," says Samuel, "but right now the funds aren't available. At the same time, I know just how powerful radio can be to affect change."

Please join us in praying that God will provide the funds needed to train new broadcasters in Indonesia. There are over 200 million people there who have never heard the Good News, so the fields are "ripe unto harvest"!
