Paralyzed Listener Finds Hope

GOD’S LOVE OVERCOMES ALL BARRIERS… including poverty, physical impairment and illiteracy. Huong, a 40-year-old quadriplegic, can attest to that truth!

Huong is one of the listeners that Pastor Nguyen, an FEBC broadcaster, met on a recent trip to Vietnam.

Many of those he visited are quite poor, but most have radios and listen to FEBC’s Vietnamese broadcast called Nguon Song (Spring of Life).

Finding Hope on the Radio

Unable to attend school, Huong never learned to read or write, and had no sense of purpose for her life.

But her parents were Christians, and they loved FEBC-Vietnam's broadcasts.

As she listened to the stories about Jesus and His love for her, she was filled with a sense of hope she'd never known before and committed her heart to Him!

Huong also learned many Bible verses through the Nguon Song broadcasts. Even though she was illiterate, her mother bought her a Bible, which she used to teach herself how to read!

So far, she has read through the Bible twice. And every day she listens to the Nguon Song broadcast.

Taking the Next Step

After several years of growing in her faith, Huong asked her pastor if she could be baptized. At first the pastor wasn’t sure she comprehended the nature of forgiveness and salvation.

"She's so frail," explains Pastor Nguyen, "and when she tries to speak, it can be difficult to understand her. But when she prays her voice is strong and her speech is much more distinct!"

As soon as the pastor heard her pray, he knew she understood the Christian faith and he baptized her.

Sharing Her Faith

While most people in Vietnam have little regard for those with physical disabilities, Huong hasn't let that stop her from reaching out to others.

By asking relatives in the United States for money, she has purchased a number of Bibles, which she distributes to non-believers in her village.
