VIETNAM IS ONE OF THE TOP 10 COUNTRIES in the world that persecute Christians, but that doesn't matter to FEBC. We've been sharing Christ with Vietnamese listeners for 55 years. In fact, FEBC's influence has not only grown in spite of government surveillance, it extends far beyond Vietnam's boundaries thanks to the Internet!
Broadcasts Heard Round the World
Listeners in Vietnam hear our morning and evening broadcasts by shortwave radio, while others in places like Tanzania, Finland, England, Australia, Germany, and France download the Vietnamese broadcasts from FEBC-Vietnam's Web site. In fact, a priest from Tanzania recently wrote:
If I skip a day listening to you, it's like skipping a meal. Even though I don't have Internet access at home and must go to a café to hear your broadcasts, FEBC is my daily spiritual nourishment.
Many Internet listeners record the broadcasts on CD to share with family and friends. This multiplies our broadcasts many times over!
Ethnic Groups Embrace Broadcasts
FEBC also reaches out to 18 different ethnic groups in Vietnam. These broadcasts have had a phenomenal impact, especially among the Hmong in the highlands of Vietnam, who have made a mass conversion to Christianity in the past 30 years. These new believers are now reaching out to other ethnic groups in their vicinity, effectively leading them to the Lord.
This doesn't sit well with the Communist leaders, who don't like their people embracing a Western religion like Christianity.
"Communists actually encourage people to worship evil spirits," explains Pastor T, an FEBC broadcaster. "When citizens continue traditional practices, they remain subject to the vicious cycle of infirmity, poverty, and misery from one generation to another... making them easy to control."
But God never intended His people to live in fear, and the letters we receive each month attest to the transforming power of the Holy Spirit:
I pastor a tribal group in the western highlands of Vietnam. In my flock there are over 3,000 Christians who consistently listen to FEBC's daily broadcast, and they're being nurtured through your teaching. On behalf of all the Christians here, I'd like to thank FEBC.
Thank you for helping FEBC share the Good News of Jesus Christ with listeners around the world!
