MR. TUONG*, THE PRESIDENT OF A MANUFACTURING PLANT in Saigon, visited the cafeteria of his company, where hundreds of workers, aged 18-25, assembled for lunch. Many had recently left their homes in the country to earn better wages. But when their work day ended, they were lonely, with little to do in their cramped apartments.
What can I do to help these people, Mr. Tuong wondered as he looked at the sea of faces. Do any of them know the Lord? What would their lives be like if they could get connected to a church?
His vision to share Christ’s love prompted him to contact a pastor who agreed to come and talk to his employees at work.
When Mr. Tuong’s employees heard about Jesus, many of them believed. To help them grow in their faith, members of Mr. Tuong’s church... and eventually members of other local churches, began to disciple the new believers.
Another business owner from Mr. Tuong’s church was inspired to reach out in a similar way with his employees, and soon many young people were turning to the Lord.
FEBC Programs Help Fill the Gap
As more people accepted Christ, it quickly became apparent that the new believers needed consistent discipleship and Christian fellowship. But the Lord had already taken care of that need. Pastor Nguyen, a broadcaster from FEBC, met with one of Mr. Tuong’s associates and agreed to distribute radios to many of the new believers. FEBC’s broadcasts are now helping these young Christians grow in their faith!
Exciting Changes in Church Attendance
Many of the once-empty churches in Saigon began to be filled. Last Christmas, a person from a local church encouraged factory workers to attend the Christmas Eve service. She hoped for one hundred but was thrilled when four hundred filled the pews!
Other Christian businessmen are also reaching out to their employees and the results have been amazing! During Christmas 2006 a census was taken among nine churches in Saigon. In a short period of time, 3,443 people have accepted Christ and now attend church on a regular basis.
“This is the first time something like this has ever happened,” Pastor Nguyen recently said. “God is on the move and it’s so exciting to see Him at work in the hearts of the next generation.”
