FEBC HAS HAD AN INCREDIBLE MINISTRY to Hmong listeners in Vietnam, Laos, China, Myanmar and Thailand for many years. Inspired by a request to connect with some of their remote listeners, a team led by Hmong program producers recently undertook a strenuous trip to visit 3 villages.
Because they lacked the funds to hire motorbikes, they made the journey on foot.
Led by local guides, the team hiked through mountains, down into a valley, across a river, and had one last incredibly steep climb to get to the main road. One programmer said that final mountain seemed to be as "high as the sky!"
This part of the journey was so difficult that one of the team members actually fainted. While some local youths helped the team by carrying their bags and bringing them food, others took turns carrying the young woman who'd fainted until they reached the road.
Well Worth the Effort
When they finally reached the first village it quickly became apparent that their efforts were not in vain.
The villagers were hungry for God and wanted to know as much about Him as they could. The evening Bible study went late into the night, and in the morning the team had additional meetings with both the young people and adults.
When it was time to leave, the villagers wept as they said good-bye to the team in song. The team had similar experiences in the other villages.
In another village they met a large number of believers at a church gathering and everyone they met said they'd accepted Jesus Christ through FEBC's programs!
God’s Perfect Timing
Believers in these villages shared that the Hmong broadcasts are a source of comfort when they are troubled.
One man testified that the radio program had helped his church during a time when there was much division among the members. Right after the church had decided to separate, he turned on his radio for the regular daily broadcast. And at that moment the announcer was talking about unity in a special series of programs!
So he called the leaders to listen together, and the Lord used the broadcasts to convict them. As a result they repented and the church stayed together. He thanks God for the Bible teaching through FEBC radio.
A housewife shared that she reworks her schedule at home and in her fields to make sure she can listen to the Hmong broadcasts. When she's unable to listen she feels as though "something important is lacking."
No Other Way to Learn About the Bible
Believers in each of these villages asked the team to keep teaching the Bible through the Hmong broadcasts. Although they're unable to support FEBC financially, they are committed to praying for the Hmong radio team.
One villager shared, "Please don't stop serving God. Without the radio, we have no other way to learn about the Bible. "I thank all of those at FEBC who create these radio programs for us. The broadcasts have led us to know God, and enabled us to accept new life and grow in Jesus Christ. May God bless you all in FEBC."
