On-Air Seminary Develops Christian Leaders

A COUPLE YEARS AGO, a colleague poked his head into my office and said, "There’s a man here who says he wants to visit his mother church." I was puzzled.

"His name is Ben and he said he came to the Lord by listening to FEBC." I welcomed Ben into my office and soon discovered exactly what he meant when he said FEBC had become his "mother church."

Looking for Answers

When Ben was in high school, his grandmother died and her death prompted him to consider the meaning of life.

In his search, Ben spent time listening to foreign broadcasts and eventually tuned into an FEBC program. The teacher spoke about man’s sinful nature, urging listeners to repent and accept the gift of grace through Jesus Christ.

Though Ben was well-liked and a good student, the preacher’s message made him aware of his sinful nature. Right then and there, he fell to his knees and committed himself to the Lord.

Since he lived in a town with no Christian presence, his only source of spiritual nourishment was the radio. Ben faithfully listened to FEBC each day and grew strong in his faith.

Double Major

When Ben left for college, he packed his clothes and the only possession he cherished: his radio.

During his first semester at school, he also enrolled in the Voice of Friendship Seminary, a university-level Bible program offered by FEBC in China.

After Ben finished his classes at school, he would rush back to his tiny room and listen attentively to the seminary classes on the radio. Though he had a lot of homework for his university studies, he never missed a radio class, listening faithfully six days a week for four years! He was also active in evangelistic outreach projects and served as a leader of a small group.

When Ben graduated from college, he realized he had completed two majors: Business Administration and Biblical Studies. "By the grace of God," Ben later explained, "I was equipped for both a career in business and Christian ministry."

A Life of Service

Upon graduation, Ben returned to his hometown where he landed a job at a local firm, and in the evenings he helped establish a worship group and served as their pastor. A few years later, Ben quit his job and is now in full time ministry, training people to be Bible study leaders!
