Not Your Typical Summer Camp

IN A COUNTRY IN THE Indian subcontinent where most people practice another faith, it’s dangerous to share the Good News.

However, FEBC’s sister organization, Feba Radio, broadcasts shortwave programs into this country, and 75% of their listener letters -- 1,000 to 2,000 a month -- are from non-Christians.

While they're quick to identify the faith they practice, they also say how much they enjoy the broadcasts.

Feba communicates a sense of trust to the thousands of listeners who regularly tune in, and letters from them often express an eagerness to learn more about Christ.

The Audience Relations Department corresponds with many of them, often establishing a relationship through letters. And those who show a genuine interest in digging deeper are offered an opportunity to attend a listeners’ camp hosted by Feba every summer.

The camp is a week-long retreat, where listeners learn foundational truths of the Christian faith. Initially, many first-time campers feel uncomfortable, not knowing what to expect from a Christian environment, but Feba staff quickly put them at ease.

A Taste of Christian Fellowship

By the end of the week, many say they feel immensely blessed and very much a part of the Feba family. They share the enormous impact the broadcasts have had on them; some even use this opportunity to commit their lives to Christ, a huge decision for people living in this region.

Others make the decision for Christ earlier, such as one man named Rashid,* who shared his story at a recent camp.

I was once a religious leader from another faith. I began listening to Feba’s broadcasts, including the Bible Correspondence program. Villagers found out and were very angry with me, but I still continued to listen to Feba Radio.

One night I had a dream. In this dream my mother died. At her funeral, villagers refused to participate because I had become a Christian. Christ appeared at my mother’s funeral and told the villagers not to persecute me.

When I awoke from my dream, my mother who had been ill became well and accepted Christ as her Savior! And the villagers stopped persecuting me.

I sincerely believe these changes were orchestrated by God. I was so convicted I stepped down from my position at the local holy place and found a new way to support myself. All of these events took place because I first tuned into Feba Radio.
