In Memory of Jim Bowman – Former FEBC President

Jim Bowman, former FEBC President, recently passed away on August 8, 2024. Born into a missionary family, Jim (back row on the far left) grew up in the Philippines, and began a life-long hobby of collecting butterflies. He would often say, “The transformation of a butterfly is a clever way to express the Gospel.”

Following in his father’s footsteps, Bob Bowman, a founder of FEBC, Jim also joined the ministry. In 1977, he served as Director of Operations and supervised over 35 radio stations in Latin America and Asia. Jim spent many seasons working closely with the indigenous FEBC broadcasters. Later, he served as President from 1995-2003.

Our hearts and prayers are with the Bowman family during this time.

  1. I remain grateful for the many opportunities to interact with Jim over the years at FEBC. From our first visit to the home office to the golf courses, tennis courts, and even the back of a carabao in Bocaue Philippines, he was personable and purposeful at the same time. His take on integrity (being the same on the outside as you are on the inside) has stuck with me for years.

Barb and I anticipate seeing Jim again in heaven. Until then God will bless our memories.

  2. I saw the news of Jim’s passing in an NRB email. When I was preparing to go to the Philippines as a shortwave broadcaster, Jim was really helpful in telling me what to expect when I first arrived. It was eye-opening, but it was better to understand some things about life in Manila before going. Americans are used to comfortable life after all! I spent about 8 years in Manila and have friendships with missionaries and Filipinos that continue today. Many blessings to the Bowman family and to FEBC.
